Doug Gillis, Broker of Record
Prior to joining the real estate industry, Doug Gillis had a successful career in yacht building and repair in Toronto. He sold his first business to C&C Yachts and when they met their demise in 1987, Doug re-acquired the business from receivers, Cooper & Lybrand. After restructuring the company, he sold it once again to an English consortium in October of 1989.
Doug’s love for skiing and cycling initially drew him to the Georgian Triangle area, and after 25 successful years in the marine industry, he made the decision to relocate to Collingwood. With his knowledge of marine construction and contracting, real estate sales were a natural progression. After so many years in the yacht business, he began to think that one of the greatest things about being involved with houses and property was the fact that they didn’t sink, explode, or end up adrift.
Since joining the real estate industry in 1991, Doug has been actively involved in approximately 1,875 sales and purchases (as of December 31, 2020), both residential and commercial, in Collingwood, Town of the Blue Mountains and the surrounding area. Since 1991 he has achieved a sales volume in excess of $608,000,000 (as of December 31, 2020).
Doug has earned the honour of placing in the Top 100 RE/MAX Sales Associates in Canada for 1999, 2000, 2002, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2019; an impressive achievement as there are well over 21,500 RE/MAX Sales Associates across Canada. Doug has also achieved entry into the elite RE/MAX Diamond Club for 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2019; an honour reserved for Sales Associates with annual commissions in excess of $1 Million. Doug is also the recipient of the coveted Circle of Legends in 2016 – a one time award for accumulated production in excess of $10 Million paid commissions in the RE/MAX system and at least 10 years with RE/MAX.

- The acquisition of all the lands acquired for the Georgian Bay Club
- The marketing and selling of the Alta Subdivision
- The marketing and selling of Phase I and Phase II of Nipissing Ridge
- Assembling the 63 acre acquisition for Terrasan in Craigleith, over a period of 2 years
- Assisting in the acquisition of property for the Olde Towne project in the heart of Collingwood
- Facilitating the acquisition of property and negotiating a construction contract for Chartwell Reit
- The marketing and selling of Phase I Peaks Bay
- The marketing and selling of Phase II Peaks Bay
- The marketing and selling of Peaks Ridge
Maddy Gillis, Broker
Maddy began her real estate career in the Summer of 2016 as a Sales Representative and graduated to Broker in 2017. Between completing her educational obligations, Maddy found her stride while working alongside her father, Doug. She quickly learned to appreciate his valuable, experience-based knowledge and the many tips and tricks he’s shared along the way.
Maddy has plenty of knowledge to offer when it comes to the various communities in the Southern Georgian Bay Area. Maddy was born in Collingwood, and she attended elementary school in Thornbury and high school in Meaford. After attending Business School in North Bay, followed by a Project Management certificate program in Oshawa, Maddy moved back to the area. Her affection for skiing, cycling, and golfing have grown her love for the area even more. An extensive background in Customer Service and Retail have contributed to Maddy’s devotion to sales. Maddy covers all areas of the real estate business: homes and chalets, vacant land, developments, commercial, and rentals. Since 2016 Maddy has been able to achieve the RE/MAX Executive Club, the RE/MAX 100% Club, & the RE/MAX Platinum Club awards.
Maddy feels truly grateful to be able to live, work, and play in such a beautiful area. She supports the Georgian Triangle Humane Society and has worked with them to sponsor multiple Kittypalooza adopt-athon events. Animal welfare is important to Maddy and she loves cuddling up with her pup and cat at the end of a long day.
Debbie Cubitt, Unlicensed Assistant
Debbie has been working with Doug Gillis since 2006 as a real estate assistant. Debbie’s first career was in retail as a store manager for a chain drug store for 18 years. When it was time for a change, real estate was where she decided to go next. After working as a licensed real estate salesperson from 1996 to 2001, Debbie accepted a position as administrator for a small real estate office and remained there until 2006, when Doug contacted her and offered her a job as his assistant. Debbie has seen many changes in the real estate world over the past decade and a half, and has enjoyed contributing to and watching Doug’s business grow.
Tracy deWerth, Unlicensed Assistant
Tracy is the newest addition to the Doug Gillis & Associates Realty team and has been part of the team since April 2017. Tracy has worked in the financial industry, owned her own dog walking service, worked in the food & beverage industry, both as a server and in management, and found her ultimate passion in being a mother to her two children, Laura and Nathan. Tracy enjoys the fast paced world of real estate and finds that there is something new to learn every day.
